Every order ends the same way: the domain lands in a registrar account you control. This page walks through the two routes it can take to get there, what we need from you for each, and how long each step usually takes.
1. After you buy
The moment your payment clears you receive a receipt email with a link to your personal order page. That page lists every domain in your order and lets you tell us how you'd like to receive them.
As soon as your preference arrives we start processing. You'll get a confirmation email when you submit your details and another email the moment each domain is handed over.
2. Two ways to receive a domain
Which route is right depends on where you want the domain to live:
- Account push — you have (or don't mind creating) a free account at the registrar currently holding the domain, e.g. GoDaddy. We move the domain into your account there. Fastest route: no codes, no waiting window.
- EPP / auth code — you'd rather keep the domain at your own registrar. We unlock the domain and send you its transfer code; you start the transfer from your registrar's "transfer in" page.
3. Option 1: push to your account
- On your order page, choose "Push it to my account at the source registrar".
- Enter your username or customer ID (and the email on that account), then confirm you've double-checked it — a push to the wrong account is hard to unwind.
- We initiate the move. Depending on the registrar you either accept the incoming domain from your dashboard or simply see it appear in your account.
Pushes stay inside one registrar, so there is no inter-registrar waiting period and no transfer fee.
4. Option 2: EPP / auth code
- On your order page, choose "Send me an EPP / auth code instead".
- We unlock the domain and email you its auth code — one code per domain.
- At your own registrar, open "Transfer a domain in", enter the domain name and the code, and approve the transfer when prompted.
Most registrars charge their normal one-year renewal price to transfer a domain in — that year is added to your domain's expiry, so it's a renewal you'd be paying anyway, not an extra fee from us.
5. .uk domains work differently
.uk and .co.uk domains don't use auth codes. Nominet (the .uk registry) moves domains between registrars with an IPS tag change: tell us your registrar's tag, we set it on the domain, and your registrar picks the domain up — usually within hours, with no week-long window.
Prefer an account push instead? If you hold an account at the registrar the domain already sits with, that works exactly like option 1.
6. How long it takes
- Account push: usually completed within 24 hours of receiving your account details.
- EPP / auth code: the code reaches you within 24 hours; the inter-registrar transfer itself typically takes up to 5 days depending on the registrars involved.
- .uk IPS tag change: usually a few hours once we have your registrar's tag.
You get an email the moment each domain completes — and you can always reopen your order page from the receipt email to check where things stand.
7. Frequently asked questions
Do I need an account at a specific registrar?
Only for a push — and then only at the registrar currently holding the domain (your order page names it). For the auth-code route you just need an account at whichever registrar you're moving the domain to.
Are there any extra fees?
We never charge for the transfer. Account pushes and .uk tag changes are free at virtually every registrar. Transferring a domain in with an auth code costs your registrar's standard renewal price, which adds a year to the domain's expiry.
I don't have a registrar yet — what should I do?
Create a free account at any major registrar. The simplest option: check which registrar holds your domain (it's on your order page) and open an account there, then choose the push — it's instant and free.
Can I change my mind after submitting my details?
Yes. The confirmation email includes an undo link that revokes what you submitted, and you can reply to any of our emails to switch routes before the transfer has been actioned.
My auth code hasn't arrived — where is it?
Codes go out within 24 hours of your request. Check your spam folder first; if it's genuinely missing, reply to your receipt email and we'll resend it straight away.
Who do I contact if I get stuck?
Just reply to your receipt or confirmation email. Replies attach to your order automatically, so a real person picks up the thread with full context — no need to re-explain anything.
8. Need a hand?
Domain transfers involve two registrars, a registry and at least one email inbox — if anything looks stuck, don't wrestle with it alone. Reply to any email about your order and we'll take it from there.
